Nurses Eating their young, in the workplace

Your a new nurse full of motivation and of possibilities. You finally have accepted your first real nursing job! You are ready to grind it out, learn all of the details you need to learn, and all around excited about your new position. You hear people say "Laylow", and "you don't want management to know your name", yet just don't understand, why?

Despite all of  your optimism you unintentionally rubbed off on someone the wrong way and now your world has been engulfed with misperceptions, and a spread of lies.

<<Pause >>

I want to officially welcome you to the real world. You can say bye-bye to the shedding of yet another layer of childhood innocence.

Wake up call! Your new to the game; at the bottom of the totem pole. Many still have the mindset that you still need to "earn your wings". No one likes to be corrected by a newbie, or challenged....even if you are right. You might just touch their ego, and will get a piece of their wrath. But, you might say, its about the patients and meeting their needs, not conserving people's pride and ego. Correct, but you are playing their game. Your a piece of that game, and until you "earn your wings", lay low. Don't draw attention to yourself, or give too much push back. Your preceptors, and colleagues have been on the unit much longer than you. They know how to play the game. I know it sucks, and it doesn't seem fair, but you need to realize your just there to safely take care of patients, get that paycheck and go home. Its unfortunate, but the true reality.

How did you deal with nurse bullying at your workplace?
