Nurses, take your breaks

Yes, I realize everyone needs you and there are still tasks to complete, but you need to take your break!

Many times it feels as if there are more things to do than nurses available to complete them. Your constantly trying to be a step ahead of the game, yet always seem to be drowning behind.  Like a mouse running in a wheel, your in a never ending cycle of things to do.

Take a break. WHY?
  • It gives you the time to step away... center yourself, and realize what your body's needs are.
  • You are able to put food (more fuel) in your body, and empty your bladder.
  • It helps you destress. Thus, you will be more patient with patients.
  • It renews your strength for the remainder of the shift.

Remember, taking care of YOU is taking care of your patients. It is hard to take care of someone else, when one is not in tune with their own selves.  Henceforth, taking breaks, is something we as nurses need to make intentionally.

When do you find the best time to take a break is?
