You would be surprised to find out the extent to which your critical inner thoughts affect your life. Much of our thought process/mindset, mood, beliefs of ourself/others, actions and reactions come from a deeply rooted and interconnected system of critical inner thoughts. Consequently, creating us to be our own worst enemy as our inner voices roll play self destructive and critical ideas over and over in our minds with every opportunity it gets. Yet, as we intentionally take the time to identify these critical inner thoughts and take action to combat them, we gradually gain a new perspective that gives us more control of our actions and lives. As you take the time to reflect on your mental health and identify your critical inner thoughts, ask yourself the following questions:
What are your inner thoughts telling you? Write them down.
- Your stupid. Your Ugly and fat. You always forget things. You never can do anything right. Your a bad person. No one will ever love you. You never finish anything that you start. What a klutz! You suck at everything you try to do. Your going to mess up again.
Is this something you tell yourself, or others?
- Is this something your parents, siblings, or friends have told you?
- Is there something that triggers these thoughts?
- Were you told this in your childhood?
Who is the real you?
- List your positive attributes, success/accomplishments, talents, goals, values, interests etc.
What will you do to reflect the real you?
- Take all the critical inner thoughts you wrote down, and combat it with a positive "I am" statement.
- What actionable steps will you take to reflect the real you?
